Suicide Prevention - Response Protocol(s) Orientation

October 21, 2022

Suicidal ideation is an unfortunate and challenging reality for many people involved with the child welfare system. Concerns related to suicide can be intense and complex, and sometimes difficult. for helpers to navigate through. The Suicide Prevention - Response Protocol(s) are intended to assist staff/care providers during these situations, and provide some key strategies in responding to a suicide concern with an emphasis on increasing safety, and promoting life.

This half day orientation will provide a comprehensive review of each protocol (pertaining to children in care who are thinking about suicide, children not in care who are thinking about suicide, and adults who are thinking about suicide), as well introduce a series of resources designed and available to assist helpers in various situations (including suicide prevention in the workplace, tools for people impacted by a suicide attempt, tools for people impacted by a suicide loss, and talking to a child about a suicide).
