April 17, 2023 to April 18, 2023
This training will be relevant for all staff, however particularly important for newer staff to attend. This training will build on much of what has been offered during the All My Relations sessions, specifically around working alongside families in an authentic and compassionate way. This training will review the Agencies' Mission & Vision Statements, as well as our Guiding Principles, and how these are directly linked to the shift in practice at both Metis CFCS and Michif CFS. Manitoba's Definition of Permanency and Wellbeing for Children will also be reviewed, and discussions had around how it relates to this way of being with families. The training will review the reasons why this way of working alongside families is so important, and the critical outcomes of not doing so. The training will offer information on the most effective ways to locate and communicate with families when trying to ensure children that are in care are connected to their family, community, and culture, including how to have some of these more challenging conversations. The training will look at how to help children/youth/families create and build their networks of support, with a large focus on the importance of welcoming families/community into the process of network gatherings. Concrete steps for facilitating network gatherings will be covered, including discussions around some complicating factors that can arise during the practice of network gatherings, with concepts provided on how to navigate these moments. This time together will allow plenty of opportunity for open dialogue, sharing of experiences, and answering any questions participants may have.
